Mic-less Open Mic Night!

I have a floor event this week!

It is an open microphone style coffee house type of event that will allow my residents to share their talents with the floor. I am a huge fan of events that emphasize communication between residents on my floor.

Since it is still November and not far enough into the year for my girl’s community to have developed to the degree that I would have liked, this event should facilitate a further development of community markers- such as the knowing of names, hobbies and family background.

To further this goal, I plan on placing carefully tailored conversation cards on the tables so that my girls are encouraged to talk to one another.

Facebook is one of the very best ways to convince my residents to leave their rooms and actually attend the floor events that I put on, it also gives me more of an idea of how many people to expect; and therefore, how many supplies to purchase.

In addition to Facebook, I put coffee cup shaped invitations on each door and it the bathroom stalls so that my girls will feel more personally invited to the event.

Later this week, I am planning to fill up espresso cups with coffee beans and placing them in public parts of the floor—like the counters in the bathroom.

Hopefully, some more ambient advertising will break the norm of average campus advertising.
