Today, I attended a “So You Want to Be an RD” workshop that was put on by Student Development. The workshop discussed the challenges of the current job market along with supplying some tips for Resident Director job hunting.
Here is the basic “Me in three months” image that began to form in my head…
I will be spending every spare moment filling out applications, and when I am not doing that, I will be researching the schools that I am applying at-so that I can tailor my application to the skills that best fit their needs.
If by some miracle, I do get an interview, it will be one that happens over the phone. I need to practice that with our Student Development first.
If I don’t get weeded out there, next comes the 24 hour campus visit. This is a traumatic experience that will measure my ability to work with people in casual and professional environments.
Realistically, I should also be prepared to send out one million applications and to be denied one million times.
I have two choices here:
1) hyperventilate, freak out and join the circus.
2) Do my very best and then leave the rest of the story in God’s hands.
