Chapter 9 of Connecting discuses a topic that has frequently been on my mind lately.
What is the topic?
Hate
Not that there is anyone that I really hate at this point…(Except, for the jerk that decided to make we wait until July for the next Harry Potter Movie)
It is more the idea of “Hate” and the purpose that God really intended for it.
In C.S. Lewis’s Perlandra, there is a mention of the fact that hate was, in fact, created for a reason. It may be something that God has a purpose for, rather than something that is simply evil in itself.
Lewis says that hatred was created to fire our constant fight against evil. Yes, we are allowed to hate evil.
The bible says:
Hate what is evil, cling to what is good.
This means that we should not seek to remove all hatred from our lives, rather, we need to point it in the right direction.
In connecting, Larry Crabb says “If a person does not hate Satan, he or she will hate someone else-either another person or themself.
This misplaced hatred can show in many ways, in intentional or unintentional abuse of another person, in broken relationships, or self -abuse.
In my time with Rez Life ministries, I have seen all of these things (in one way or another) and it is always sad.
There is a lot of brokenness in the college age population.
The challenge that this creates for me, is the challenge of learning how to communicate this to my floor.
