Reflection "South Two Farm Day"

(This post was written in October, but was just posted online)

One of my goals for this internship was to plan more activities and events that took place off of the Spring Arbor University Campus. In my experience, students tend to enjoy any activity that breaks the routine and takes them out of overly familiar settings.

So, I planned a trip to "Flavor Fruit Farms" in Somerset Center, Michigan. Click here to visit their website. I called a week ahead of time to check the schedule and found out that the farm had a recent litter of piglets as well as a wide selection of activities.

I advertised using Facebook, Email and I designed these posters for the floor...

Around 15 residents met together to leave for the farm....
I had printed directions from mapquest.com and distributed them to the drivers of our carpool.
That's where we had our troubles...
First...the carpool got separated while we were driving (I should have put a designated cell phone person in each car)
Second...some of the drivers managed to get completely lost on the way. (I should have pre-driven the trip so that I could have given more specific directions)
Third...Several residents got into a fight over directions and I spent most of my time trying to help them to settle their dispute.

This was much more stressful than it needed to be! I wish that I had planned the traveling aspect more carefully so that the event would have ran more smoothly.

Despite this issue, most of the residents had a wonderful time. They watched baby animals, ate fresh donuts and seemed to relax.
I just wish that it had been a bit more crisp!
